About
My name is Isaac Haigh. I am 25 years old, originally from England, and I now live in Brisbane, Australia. I moved here on a working holiday visa with a loose plan and a carry-on bag. The plan has since evolved. The bag has not gotten much bigger.
Modern Day Minimalist Man is where I document the things I care about: training hard, competing in triathlon, exploring the Australian outdoors, tracking my health data with purpose, and living with fewer distractions. This is not an advice blog and I am not pretending to be an expert. It is a record of what I am doing, what I am learning, and what is working.
Training and Competition
I train most days. That includes gym sessions focused on functional strength, swimming, cycling, and running as part of triathlon preparation, and weekend hikes or outdoor sessions when the weather allows — which in Queensland is most of the time. I signed up for my first sprint triathlon within three months of arriving and I have not stopped racing since.
The Minimalist Angle
Minimalism, for me, is not an aesthetic choice. It is a practical one. I moved to the other side of the world with limited possessions and discovered that I did not miss any of the things I left behind. That realisation changed how I approach everything — training, nutrition, gear, time management. If something does not serve a clear purpose, it does not stay. The blog reflects that philosophy: direct content, no filler, no noise.
What You Will Find Here
Training logs and programme updates. Race recaps from triathlon and other events. Hiking and camping trip reports from Southeast Queensland and beyond. Health tracking data and what it actually means in practice. And occasional reflections on what it is like to build a new life in a new country from scratch.
If any of that sounds useful, have a look around. If you want to get in touch, the contact page is the place to do it.
